since i'm not going to have much going on as far as flowers are concerned, i'm planning to be a supermarket bouquet bride.
seriously.
in fact, oftentimes, when fiance and i go to the market, he'll lose me for about 10 minutes only to find me roaming around the flower section, looking all sorts of crazy.
"are you thinking of getting flowers from here?! for our wedding?!"
"yes."
"oh, ok. just asking."
and i'm not worried at all about the selection of colors the market will have on the day-of because there's always a variety of stuff to choose from. and regardless, i will tim gunn it all the way. you know. make it work.

This has been my plan all along, once I determined that I was NOT waking up at 5am for the LA Flower Mart! Especially with non-floral centerpieces, why bother with an expensive florist? $150 starting price for a bouquest?! Bish, plz.
I've found TJs generally has better flowers than the supermarket. Then again, if TJs looks ick, just go to nearby Ralphs and check it out instead.

since you're in LA, you really might consider going to the flower mart. you don't have to go very early, and it's SO much cheaper. also, don't even consider doing it yourself - that's a great project to pass off to a friend.

love it! fyi, you don't have to take your chances on what they will have the morning of. most supermarkets will let you place an order like 3 weeks before for flowers they typically get in. then you know exactly what to plan for.
trader joes has amazing flowers! if there were one in my town, i'd be going there too!
Love Trader Joe flowers! The one near my house always has the cutest spray roses & every time I see them they always remind me of the bouquets Lauren Davis' bridesmaids carried in her wedding (photographed by VOGUE). Anyway, their flowers are so sweet. Good idea! Great blog!

I bought my flowers at Pikes Place Market and tied them all together the night before the wedding. Do it. I don't regret it one bit.

I ordered mine from flower farms online, and they were both cheap and amazing. I just thought I would throw that out as another option for you, and they are delivered to your house! I would have gone the store route, but I wanted ceritan colors and flowers. People at the venue kept asking who our florist was!

You should call ahead and see what they can do for you - one of my friends was able to score an entire box full of rose petals from her local grocery store for free!

they have lots of other flowers too. they were over nighted to our venue the day before and my friends arranged them. more roses than i could have ever needed plus tax and shipping well under 300. sweet.
I did the flowers for my wedding using blooms ordered from Safeway, and a few extras picked up from the Flower Mart here in San Francisco. But the Safeway flowers were the bulk of what I used. They arrived fresh, on time, and were super-inexpensive. And I had a lot of fun putting bouquets together with my sisters. I highly recommend grocery store flowers. Just order in advance.
Oh, and that headpiece on the post above? I made one for my wedding. Easy peasy and super chic. I'd be happy to make one as a gift for you, 10,000 Wedding Gal, with the leftover netting and feathers I have, to save your budget a bit. Post an answer if you're interested.
I think that this is a fantastic idea! Trader Joe's has excellent flowers and you can definitely make something beautiful out of the flowers that are available to you.

I bought my flowers from the flower area of the supermarket... You can order flowers through them! I got mine at SAMS... similar to CostCo. I had 300 yellow roses for $150. It was GORGEOUS!
if you are going to DIY your flowers, you MUST check out the flower market in downtown LA. the prices are unbelievable and the selection is HUGE -- two warehouses of flowers.
the catch? you have to show up at like 6am to get the most of your trip, but you will get your flowers wholesale.
its where the florists get their flowers, so why not give it a try.
