is there a place where you can try on J. Crew dresses, or can you only order them online?
And remember - you can always sell any dress after you've worn it... bonus on the budget side of things. (how I got mine for 1/2 price)

One budget tip you might want to consider is looking at bridesmaid's dresses too. My wedding dress is actually a full length jim hjelm bridesmaid dress, and, at 260$, it's a really great deal on a fantastic dress.
