i have 4 months left. AHHHHHHHH!
just kidding. i'm fine.
in fact, i've even constructed a rather unsophisticated timeline for each month, making me feel that much more productive. and since it's january, i'll share this month's list.
1) gather the stuffs for the centerpieces. start crafting.
2) decide whether a dj and/or mc is necessary. (leaning towards no...)
3) who is going to be our freaking officiant.
4) collect guest info aka pressure the 'rents to get. on. it.
5) outline the ceremony...who walks down first, what is said, when the rings are exchanged.
6) outline reception schedule...first dance, f/d dance, toasts.
overall, i must admit i'm not stressed. but i do have my moments.
for example. i'm not doing rsvp return cards. i'm having our guests email us directly once they receive the invitation. i've been worrying for the past two days about getting an email from madeupemailaddress@yahoo.com and not knowing who it is.
and then while walking to the restroom just now, i thought...hey, i could number the rsvp cards i'm including in the invitation and ask the guests to reference it in their email response. it's slightly inconvenient, i guess, in that it could further confuse the older generation (email? what's that?!). but it's ok. we'll all get through it. (hold me.)
**************************************
a real conversation:
me: ...when we are much much older...i hope i die before you.
him: ...i hope so too.
**************************************
EDIT: point of clarification: 143iloveyou was an arbitrary fake email address. or so i thought (oops). my point was simply to show that if the email address was nondescript, how would i know which guest was rsvp'ing. that's all.

ha! both of us hopes he dies first. otherwise he might be like clint eastwood's character in gran torino.
GL with the email RSVPs!
I'm planning to craft my wedding blog & ask people to sign my guest book with their RSVP's, food choice & music recommednations.
I like your idea of a monthly time-log, that helps you not get overwhelmed!
You could always add a phone number to RSVP by...that could help the older generation. Just an idea!
My brother had a rsvp website and had each guest use the numbers in their address for their rsvp verification. so, if you live at 123 Smith St., you logged in with 123 as your rsvp... could do something similar for your emails.
I was thinking about doing the exact same thing with email RSVPs. Hope it works out for you!! I think it'll be a good idea for my family for everyone except my great grandma...then again, there are a lot of wonderful-but-technological-deficient people in our families.
Haha! That is a very cute convo (cute in a slightly morbid way but still very charming).
I made our wedding website at weddingwire.com and its FREE. They have an online RSVP that you can use on your website, and all the guest has to do is type in their name, and as long as its on your coordinating guest list, they can rvsp to ceremony and/or reception, and weddingwire then sends you an email with the info.
I love the idea of it, we'll just have to wait and see if it works.
We did email RSVPs too and they worked just fine without any sort of numbering information. Most people's email has their name either in the "from" field (that's most email default) or in the signature. We also included our phone numbers for the older generation so they didn't have to try to figure out email if they weren't internet savvy.
Don't make it more complicated than you have to. :)
I was going to recommend weddingwire for online rsvps too :)
Ha ha. We've had the same conversation, except we both agree he should be the one to go first. I'm not a huge fan of the "plan" but I would deal with it better so there you go.
And here I was thinking we were the only weirdos having conversations like that. :-)
With regards to the e-mailer RSVP that you don't know- I would suggest e-mailing them back and just asking them who's e-mail address it is. Something in the name caught my attention, but thats neither here nor there. You don't want unexpected people showing up at your wedding.
OH Geez! I was just freaking out cause it is 5 months till my wedding!! I started to make my to do list and have been trying to calmly get it done, but of course also have my moments! I am trying soooo hard to also come in under the 10,000 budget. I just have to think positive thoughts....
anonymous...thanks for watching out!!! i deleted your comment to prevent others from letting curiosity get the best of them and looking up 'rene'.
Including a phone number for RSVP is the best way to go for the "older" generation... They are comfortable with the phone and can always leave you a message.
We set up an email account & had our mob numbers there too. We've received quite a few verbal rsvps, a few via the email account and even a few txt messages on the mobiles. No response from the oldies yet - I hope that doesn't mean they are offended by our lack of invitation etiquette.
BTW: I read your entire blog over my holiday break - that probably makes me a stalker - I googled 10,000 wedding as I also tried to plan one, but am 5k over the budget. Such is life!
"who is going to be our freaking officiant"
it's so comforting i'm not the only one asking myself that question
Wow, you're way ahead of me! I'm trying to figure out the CA rules about having a friend be an officiant, so definitely share if you're going that way...because by "trying to figure out" I mean, procrastinating and not doing any research.
