i was over at whole foods on friday, picking up a fruit tart and a wheat-free/flourless chocolate cake and briefly stopped to admire the flowers by the entrance.
i'm DIY'ing my bouquet, see, so i notice these things.
now. ideally. i know i should head over to the flower mart where they have a million flowers on the cheap. but 1) i don't have time and 2) i don't want to stress over it days before the wedding and 3) i don't want to stress.
i think i would try harder to save bucks on the florals if i was building my own centerpieces and needed a LOT of flowers. i'd probably also care what would be available to me and i'd probably even go so far as to order in advance the flowers i really want to use.
but the truth of the matter is, i don't because i'm not. my centerpieces are paper, remember. and the bouts are not going to have anything live in 'em.
so. i need real flowers for my bouquet. and the bms' bouquets.
that's it.
and my bouquet will not be one of those lush, thick, 10 pounders, i can tell you that much. and the bms' bouquets will probably be itty bitty. heh.
anyways. the point of the story is that i'm going to go to the local whole foods on the friday before my wedding because 1) it's right behind my house, literally, 2) they have a great selection and 3) it'll keep me sane yo.
happy monday.

I'm debating getting my bouquet flowers from whole foods also. :)
I live in Chicago and there are no flower marts to speak of in this lovely midwest city, so I'm really forced to venture elsewhere. But whole foods flowers seem fresh and have a nice variety.
i'm so happy you're back.
let's hear it for sanity! (and the flourless chocolate cake from wf. omg.)
xooo.
Whole Foods did my flowers. A couple of months before the wedding I met with the floral manager. Talked about what I wanted. I took my own ribbon and they made 3 bouquets, 6 bouts and 4 corsages for me. I think we paid about $250. Very easy.
I think your logic is right on.
Weddings are great because everyone does something a little different! How wonderful!
As for flowers, we seem to be opposite. :) I'm thinking of fabric flowers in my bouquet (homemade) but real flowers as centerpieces (bought in bulk, stuck in lots of different vases & containers I'm finding along the way--I just found 15 random vases in my work's kitchenette!)
aha!

yum, flourless chocolate cake & amazing fruit tart. delish.
stay sane. easy is good. plus, you're saving money on gas by not driving all the way downtown!
xox
I love the flower selection at my local Whole Foods (and Trader Joe's too). Did you do a trial run? Share pictures!!
I am all over the whole foods / trader joes flowers for bouquets etc. The flower selection at wf this past weekend was amazing! I can't wait!
Hooray! TTO is back :)
Yep, I'm going with Trader Joe's spray roses for my bouquet. Just bought my first test batch yesterday to see how quickly the open up [verdict: VERY quickly, as in 12 hours]. Don't bother tromping down to the flower mart if you don't have to!
Hooray for staying sane! As we are now one month out from our wedding I have stopped obsessively price shopping. I mean, as long as it's within the budget I set for an item, it doesn't have to be "the best combination of cheap and lovely" in the universe. Because it's too stressful to find the one best. Finding something that's good enough is ok at this point. Maybe I feel this way because we have some wiggle room in the budget from all my obsessive price comparing in the early days, and if so, I think I've earned it.
That particular Whole Foods has awesome flowers and I'm always surprised by how good the prices are. Plus, what are you saving if you have to drive downtown at the buttcrack of dawn? It can't be that much if all you need is bouquet flowers.
waitwaitwait... did I miss something? are you gluten-free? why the flourless cake? gluten-intolerant brides are totally the coolest IMHO.
love.
I totally feel the same way about the whole bouquet thing-no heavy one-time flowers for me! And since I'm having both my parents walk me down the aisle, I decided it would be easier to hold nothing in my hands. I made flowers out of silk georgette and I'm attaching them to a wristlet.
i like roses! white roses, to be exact, the red one's so typical, and mmmm, yeah! white ones are great! but you can choose a different wide variety of flowers, roses etc. choose that one's are lighter to carry! :)
