#643: the bottom line.

so...was i able to pull off our wedding for $10,000?

the answer is no. and no, i'm not going to 'surprise' you later and say we spent less. because we didn't. we spent more. to be clear.

********************************************

more on this to come.

Eh. I don't think that matters. Does it? Big deal. You're married. You had the wedding you wanted. While $10,000 is a nice number, it doesn't really mean anything. if blog freaks are gonna hound you over a false blog title then they can get stuffed.
I do however want to hear about the laughing, dancing, crying, hugging, grubbing, drinking and marrying. preferably with photos. thanks.

its nice to have a goal in mind .... however a wedding in LA.... NO way can it be 10,000 only... :( but we could all hope ... i thank you for being honest... and sharing all the details. i love your blog. hope your wedding was amazing no matter what the end cost was!!!!

it's just me... said...

I just want to hear all about it! (So excited!!) So you spent more...in the end, it will be about the marriage, not the dollar amount spent on the wedding.

Numbers shmumbers! It would be a shame for people to speak out of turn about your wedding.
My fav line from 311-
Fcuk the naysayers cause they don't mean a thing!!

Now onto the amazing details and photos... :)
if you'd like to share of course :)

meh - doesn't matter!! hope you guys had the perfect day for you, and the greatest time ever!!!
I think it would be hilarious if one of your readers felt slighted if you spent more.

seriously- no worries. I myself have been nervous to post my final tallies for fear that people will point in my face and say 'you're a fake and a phony and you're so not budget-savvy!!'

I can totally relate to feeling weird about it, but it doesn't matter. It's so hard to budget for weddings, there are always expenses you forget about and hidden costs that pop up at the last second. All that matters is you are married and happy! Don't worry about the negative nancy's and bitter betty's.

Can't wait to hear all about your special day!

The fact that you tried and have been an inspiration to other budget conscious brides is really what matters. Oh and that you had a wonderful wedding of course! Can't wait to hear all about it! And thank you for giving other brides ideas on planning a less expensive wedding.

I'm trying to plan a wedding in LA and have quickly realized if you came anywhere CLOSE to 10k, you did a great job!

Oh, no! Well as long as it was perfect that's all that matters!

I say congratulations on even trying. I am also on a $10,000 budget for a June 2010 Boston wedding. Having this goal in mind is tremendously helpful during the planning process. When your budget gets too large that extra hour of photography or the upgraded chairs suddenly seem like insignificant expenses – but they’re not! The $10,000 reminds me of that. Thanks for such an inspiring blog and I can’t wait to read the final breakdown.

you made a gallant effort, like most brides do. sometimes things happen and it costs a little more than you hoped, but in the end you had a fabulously amazing night right? that's what matters most.

I bet it was worth it though! ; )

When I agree to plan my brother's wedding, I set a similar goal for the event and became somewhat infamous in my family for doing so. No one believed that we could pull it off, and truth be told I didn't either, but I knew that if we didn't put a figure on our resources we'd end up going MAJORLY over budget (it's sooooo easy to spend invisible money). There were many details that were "suggested" (read: darn near forced on us) by vendors, but having that magic number made it so much easier to say no. I think maybe the lesson in this blog is not to beat ourselves up if we go a little over budget, but to recognize that putting thos parameters in place alieviates some of the pressure to live up to the kind of weddings we see on t.v. I'm willing to bet that even if you didn't hit your $10K mark, you still saved yourself big bucks and probably had a more creative and personal day than you would have had otherwise.

Our budget is also $10,000, but I am resigned to the fact that it will probably end up being more (although as little over $10,000 as possible would be AWESOME).

It doesn't hurt to try, and you did the best you could! Congrats on your marriage!

...and to be fair, your subheader says "can i do it?"

so eff the haters, i say.

Toooo cute! Esp on your #1 -- i dig anonymity like nobody else (makes sense; that's why studies show that people are more likely to share certain probs with their train/plane/bus seat partner who's a stranger than a friend!). But can I just say that your photos are stunning? Cuz duh, they are. Totally sigh-worthy. Um, and none of this includes any of your other #s :D (though too bad about the toasts/guests situation! sorry about that, but awesome you got in so much dancing! in a selfish way :D. I think everyone understands you've got a lot going on + wishes you/they could have said hi -- but um don't we all just love looking at wedding photos of ourselves? Wait, that's just me?) -- Anyway, congrats :)

We're in the same situation right now and everything hasn't even been included yet. It's nice to all the support from your readers though.

I've been waiting for you to finally share whether or not you met the mark. I am in the same boat of trying, yes trying to keep it under $10,000, but at the looks of things...it won't happen. But it was YOUR day, YOUR moment, and it only comes once in a lifetime (at least that's what others keep telling me). You made it all that you wanted it to be! Congratulations!!

It's ok!! You wouldn't believe how much ours went up too. We thought we could do it for $15k. We're now budgeting for about $23k! But it's ok. We're still cutting costs compared to some other weddings in the area and what's important is we are doing what we want to do without totally breaking the bank & we are getting married & we are happy! :) I'm sure you are also happy with the results!

With the cost of weddings it's hard to stick to $10,000. There is always something extra. It sounds like you did well.

Can't wait to hear about it..

hell with the $10,000 wedding, it doesnt matter whether you succeed or not on getting a wedding, more importantly you are a couple now! and everybody is happy with that! you have more problems ahead for the both of you! the family thing!
