#400: the little mermaid.

so my identity is kind of anonymous. i mean, i've been bloggerating for 1.5 years and i've only told two people about it --- my sister and the fiance. if my friends know about TTO at all, it's because they stalk weddingbee and style-me-pretty religiously. and if they've somehow clicked onto this site and read about the proposal and all the other little tidbits that are my life, i'm sure they've pieced it together by now (hi friends!).

in the opening scene of 'the little mermaid', triton's daughters are performing a little doo-ditty to introduce their sister ariel. and they go through all of their own names to get to hers. and one of those names happens to be mine. (hint # gajillion)

though i'm not a mermaid in real life, i do love the water. and the sun. so it only makes sense for me to be drawn to venues as close to the pacific as possible. and this especially makes sense now that i'm fully on board the 'daytime wedding' train (or is it...wagon...?).

of course, i'm not the only one who loves the water. we all know that a wedding with any type of ocean view is a popular choice amongst brides, and is especially so in so-cal. which means it is, for the most part, also pry-say.

but i happened to stumble across a couple of venues that juuuust might work. that is, unless they nickel and dime me from the initial pricing lists that were posted on their sites. you know and i know all too well about all that 'if it's too good to be true...' business. well, so maybe it is. but i emailed them anyways. juuuust in case it really is good and really is true.

keeping the hope alive, friends. we'll see.

it's Aquata isn't it? i knew it.
it's such a common name : )

i'm lucky to have a name that a million other girls my age have, so it's hard to narrow me down based on that alone.

I love the Little Mermaid (ok, fine, I love all Disney movies)! But the Little Mermaid was the first movie I owned as a kid :)

I <3 site # 2, so beautiful!

i'm right with 'notsojenny' on the name thing. ;) These venues are gorgeous. I hope one of them will work out!

My advice? You are going to drive yourself crazy with this. NUTS, my dear. You can't afford a 10K wedding on the water unless you do it on public land (get a permit for a informal wedding on the beach - don't even rent chairs just have people stand or give them blankets - and have a informal lunch reception at a casual resturant). I hate to say it, but keeping the dream alive is just going to rob you of your sanity. Don't let the best be the enemy of the good here! Really, I think what you want most of all is to be married... not to keep emailing venues. Right?

So that is me trying NOT to be a downer. Just realistic. Just years of event planning speaking.

san clemente has a beautiful park on a cliff over looking the ocean you can reserve. I'm pretty sure it's free except for a small cleaning fee. Check it out. I think I want to have my wedding there.

I'm with the other Jennifers who commented. :-) I looked up the sisters' names, because the only one I could remember was Aquata.

We're having a wedding in New England, and at times it's been crazy trying to keep costs down. But here's the idea I've been tossing around: have a destination wedding. And have it somewhere cheap.

Although #2 is lovely.

always thought places near a pier smell fishy, just something to think about.

I know you recently made a list of things you plan on cutting out of your wedding to fit your budget, but are there aspects of your wedding that you could DIY?

also, the little mermaid is my favorite disney movie ever!
