#454: officially official.

hello.

i'm going to try my best not to use any exclamation marks for this post. because if i start, it might get out of control. real fast. for real.

so i realized today that the wedding is less than 6 months away. that's bananas. but that's not at all what this post is about.

this post is strictly about...the one. but before i say who's the what, let me start with a few pictures.

capturing the moments:

a few detail shots:

so are you thinking what i'm thinking.

that mr. tto and i are LUCKY BEEYOTCHES? we are thrilled THRILLED THRILLLLLLLLLLED (no exclamations but i didn't say anything about caps) to have signed on max wanger as our photog.

visit max wanger's website here.
visit his blog here.

you may recognize his work from this lovely feature on once wed.

oh, and max never mentioned this to me separately but i discovered whilst digging around his website that he's part of an oh-so-awesome project called just one plate which showcases some of l.a.'s top restaurants. hungry yet?

i mean. seriously.

all photos by the amazing max wanger.

we. can't. wait.

I love Max Wanger's work...you're lucky indeed to have him at your wedding. For those interested -- I inquired about his packages and they start at 3.5K (up to 8 hours day-of, online gallery, digital images on CD) and go up from there. I'm an SF-based bride so we would also have had to fly him up here, which would have been a few hundred additional. I guess that is average for wedding photographers here in California -- and a bargain for a rising talent like Max Wanger -- but we just couldn't afford it (we're trying to have a 15K wedding in the SF area, and venue/catering costs alone are about 12K of our budget). I'm guessing your wedding is no longer so much in the 10K range -- but nevertheless I will be very interested to see the pictures, which are sure to be gorgeous!

hi everyone. thanks for sharing in my excitement. i probably would've burst if i didn't say anything about it on TTO.

my two cents on hiring a photog:

i focused my research on the next gen of wedding photogs because i felt the up-and-comers would be more willing to at least talk about and face the reality of my budget...(i mean, j.claire and j.villa...well, sure, in my dreams, but i don't have ten grand. for just the photog. besides. i wouldn't even know how to bring up a budget conversation with them. "um, could you knock off a zero...")...

and i was right. most, if not all, next gen photogs i contacted were very willing to talk about my budget and worked with me to build a package around what i could afford. which i think is more than fair. after all, we'd both be taking a chance, right? i'd be taking a chance on talent and experience. the photog would be taking a chance on what i'd tell the person next to me about my experience with him or her.

granted, nothing in life is free (except love. and maybe even that is arguable...) and photogs for damn sure need to also make a living...so if the photog and i couldn't determine a happy medium, money-wise, we moved on after very cordial goodbyes.

i had this kind of last-leg discussion with 7 photographers.

that said, the fiance and i were fortunate to be at-the-right-place-at-the-right-time with max. the stars were aligned and we're both extremely grateful to have been able to sign him as our photog. well, that and ecstatic. and thrilled. and excited. and happy.

so thanks for all the exclamation marks on my behalf. i feel you.
