- i love discovery, details, and organizing the nooks and crannies. when i began this blog, i wasn't even engaged. i was just obsessed with the thought of planning a meaningful, wonderful, special day...with a strict budget in tow. and now i'm married. i didn't meet my goal of a $10,000 wedding, but have no regrets. i hope you will be able to take some good ideas from this collection as compiled from blogs i visit daily. my journey isn't your journey. but maybe it can help. xo.

Absolutely! I think letterpress is a beautiful but expensively unnecessary touch. My sister's wedding invitations were gorgeous hand calligraphy, and instead of letterpress they were offset, which made them look entirely hand written rather than printed. Go for it!
yes! it's sweet & personal & (I think) classic, no matter whether it's printed, letterpressed or hand-copied.
i think the letterpress adds to it but isn't the main focus, so it would be lovely still without the letterpress.
what about gocco'ing your own handwriting?
I loved this look and was disappointed when the magazine added it was letterpress. I think the idea and look are charming without the additional letterpressing. I'd love to see someone do it.

i actually think letterpress adds a lot - it is an unusual use of the process and speaks to the days when type was actually set by hand. movable type was created to avoid having to hand write everything, here handwriting (with the help of very modern a digital file) has replaced movable type...
I think it would be totally cute in non-letterpress. It would even be neat if it were a photograph of a handwritten note in a cute context, like propped up against a teacup or something...
not only would it be cute in gocco, but it would be about the easiest thing you could do with the machine! it comes with a pen you could use to write the note, and then you could just burn the screen directly. no computer layout, no photocopying, no laser prints, nothing!

I think its adorable! Even if it wasn't letterpress - if it was letterpress, it wouldn't be as cute.
I think that they are beautiful, I love letterpress, so I think that adds so much to it. I think for the simple writing the letterpress really makes it special. Now, I've seen calligraphy invites that were just offset and they were amazing.

I do think it is a very informal invitation, as the RSVP is to call the couple or send them an email I believe. It would be really cute for a simple wedding or party. I like the color.
I saw this & fell in love with it - the letterpress add extra class, though. Either way the idea is sweet and just right for a wedding!

We did our save the date cards in a fun way that wasn't much money at all. We chose a great picture of the two of us and turned it into a postcard on costco.com with our save-the-date info on the back. That wya, people hung on to it a lot longer because they had a cute picture of the two of us to put on their fridge : )
Back in the day *this* was considered top drawer, meaning you had the wherewithall to hand write each one *instead* of just printing them off. Hand written = high class.
My hubby's cousin married into an extremely wealthy family (I have never seen so many Bentleys!) They hand wrote their invites on...
BROWN PAPER BAGS. Yup, like a lunch sack with black pen and ink. Casual country dress was encouraged.
They had a rubber stamp of two people on a buck board stamped on the bottom, tri folded the bag, slapped a stamp on it and sent it out.
The young couple was given an apple farm as a wedding gift, and this is where the reception was held, in the dirt, in the orchard. The bridesmaids wore coveralls with red checked shirts and no shoes, grooms men same. They had a three piece country band and served a typical picnic in the country menu.
It was by far the most fun and memorable wedding/reception I have ever been to.
Oh, and the thank you notes *were* printed... on paper napkins to look like they had hand written them with a black marker. Amazing.
I love this idea! Just saw it a few minutes ago as I finished up my MSW magazine. I design a lot for my job so of course I'm obsessing over design and giving them a unique touch that portrays us. But then when I think about the fact that guests are going to open up the invite, write down the date on the calendar and then more than likely toss it, I think twice about any extra cost for STDs and invites. I doubt anyone is going to call me up and compliment me on the weight of the paper and the lovely letterpress.
