#320: what a difference a week makes.

when i wrote (just a week ago too!) that i couldn't really see myself coordinating a wedding reception in a park, i was picturing completely open and public park spaces (egads). but after reading through the comments and taking your suggestions to heart (and consequently doing more research) i realize that i'd be stupid to close us off to the possibilities state/city parks have to offer.

one of the venues that was mentioned is the temescal gateway park.

i don't know. with the $1500 indoor/outdoor facility 12-hour rental fee and the cabins they rent out on the grounds (s'mores the night before!), it may just be...dare i say it...perfect.

What a gorgeous site! And what a good deal for an indoor facility plus set-up time! Are the cabins outrageous for your guests to rent?

Sounds like a good deal! Good Luck!

Yay! Join the parks and rec club :) It's happy and affordable here. I don't know about this venue, but at ours we have somewhat limited catering opitions (but good ones, it turns out, and they also have to act as coordinaters, which saves us a bundel) BUT! More to the point! We can provide all of our own booze. Hello BevMo/Costco. That is the biggest cost saver of all!!

Just make sure you can serve alcohol/wine if you want to. I looked into that for our wedding but all of the city and state parks nearby prohibit alcohol.

that looks like a pretty sweet deal! i've also found pretty reasonable rates at community centers...some of which were actually pretty on the inside too! plus, they give discounts to residents of the city. also something to think about.

Oooh, do it! Our venue had a few cottages that we rented, had our closest friends stay with us, and it was awesome! All the benefits of getting married at a hotel, but so much better =)

Is it really only $1500? I thought is was more like $2500, and I wasn't sure if that included only one location option (ie - either indoor or outdoor rental fee.)

I love love love Temescal, but based on price (though I haven't called to check - if it's really $1500 I'm stoked!) and the fact that I can only do amplified music indoors, I'm still looking. But I LOOOVE this park. And the Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy in general. And yes, you do get a day-of coordinator in the price.

Any venue help for a bride on the east coast (atlanta)? I'm really struggling with a venue and our parks aren't quite as lovely (or accommodating for large gatherings) as the beautiful real wedding I've seen in CA. I'm really up for anywhere besides the ballroom on the $10,000 within a 5 hour drive from atlanta. thanks! and thanks for hosting this blog!
