Beware! One breeze and the whole display is "done for".
If you need to buy glasses to do this, shop your thrift stores (giving back the community...great for getting an eclectic mix) and then when you're done, donate them back. I'm doing lots of glass down the center of table style seating--some with water and sea shells, some with candles. In any event, will donate all the vases, bowls, holders, etc. back to goodwill and include that as a donation on my taxes. Every tiny bit adds up for me on mine so a $200 donation (resale value calcs) comes back a tidge to me.
Fun reading your blog. I tried to kid myself into a 10,000 wedding (I only have 50 folks coming!) but...well...life happens. WEnt way overboard on photography and ceremony venue--lots of places to cut costs once you know for sure this is the theme/color, etc.
Good luck!
Pretty and simple. And you could probably even fashion your own cake pedastals by affixing inverted short old fashioned cocktail glasses (the kind for drinks "on the rocks") with some putty to pretty large round plates of your liking. All of which also could be found at thrift shops and flea markets or just borrowed from friends and family. Clean 'em up and return 'em afterward...no fuss, no muss! :)
I love this for a centerpiece. It's so whimsical and yet romantic and would be ideal for a gorgeous outdoor event!
Depending on how many centrepieces you want scattered around your venue, I'm not convinced that it is a guaranteed inexpensive decoration. Anything quirky needs to be done on-masse and buying/making the cake plates alone will cost a fair bit...I think the coloured drinking glasses with assorted flowers would do the trick by themselves! It is a lovely look, though.
