my nails are short. so i think i could fly with poppy red nails. but i'm nervous they might be kind of "too much" against all the WHITE i'll be sporting on the day of.
you? are you going neutral or planning to flash some colorific?
anyone go either way and regret it?
(let's keep toes out of this and talk about fingernails only. toes have a lot less visibility. sorry toes.)

hmmm ... what color/ how fluffy is your bouquet? You could always hide 'em in there if you have regrets.
I've seen pale pinks but never a bright red. It could be cool though. I'm probably going to stick with a neutral my nails are kind of long and with my clumsiness I'll break one and feel that "everyone can tell" if it was a color.
I say go for it if it feels like "you". If I wore red nails it would seem out of place because I never wear bright colours. But for someone else it could look really glamourous and perhaps vintage-y, depending on your dress.
I went with a French manicure for my wedding 2.5 weeks ago and am really happy with it. It's amazing how many times my nails show up in photos! I think you should wear whatever will make you look back on the photos and feel like you had fabulous nails. If that's a poppy red, then go for it!
Ha! We must be on the same schedule. Of worries that is! Actually, I have 1 week & 2 days left.:) Hmmm, I'm debating between a nice red & neutral/pinky. I just bought the latter & it's slightly irridescent which I don't like. I tried to tell myself, let it go - who cares? But I want to go back to the store & find the "right" one! Battle of the voices. I wear both colors but I think I'll go pinky because I'll mess them up or chip them & red will make it so obvious. Ooh, maybe I'll do red toes! Best of both worlds!
Its a long way off, but I'm planning on DARK purple - OPI "Lincoln Park at Midnight" dark. If you think red is more representative of you than a light color or the standard french, then I say do it.
Hmm... I'm going neutral I believe. Maybe pink. Keeping it between those two colors though, since green and chocolate brown will c.l.a.s.h. horribly.
ps. what's your colors? will red clash with your colors?
I'm probably going to go for more of a pastel pink, but the bright red might look good. Just do some trial and error and see what works for you!

Personally I'm planning on going pretty natural, but that's more because I NEVER wear nail polish.. like.. ever.
But if you want red, I say go for it! Only thing to consider is that hands will be in a lot of photos (because of the new fancy rings, as well as bouquet etc etc), so just make sure you're comfortable with that. But so long as it's you and it goes, then do it!
I wanted red nails (red was my accent color - we al wore red shoes, etc) and I let my MOH talk me out of it. I wish I had gone with it.
do it! if it's something you'd do in your normal life, then you'll prolly love it on the wedding day too. You're still you even with the white dress on :)
matte gray. i have yet to find someone who makes matte gray nail polish, but that's beside the point.
I thought the same thing because to me, there's nothing more glamorous than short red nails. It might be fun to see a color 'pop' in the sea of white you'll be wearing.
Go for it. Seriously. i think with your personality you could rock it.
I'm doing red. Actually it's more of a purple/ burgundy, but it's dark. If I regret it, black and white photos it is. But I loves me some red, and I want my kids to look back and say, "Damn, my momma had dark nails on her wedding day."
Not sure what that means exactly, but whatev, I'm set on it.
I just buffed em up nice and shiny. I'm the kind of person who chips her manicure 3 steps out of the salon, and couldn't deal with any potential nail snafus. the buff looked really nice in photos, if you care about that stuff.
I think you should definitely go for it. Whether it be cherry red or a dark rouge, dark nails have a suprising elegance to them. If you look at the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's, dark nails have stood the test of time.
While most brides opt for a french manicure or pale pink, I think this can be a little cheesy if it isn't like you to have that done.
I have always been a short nails, dark nail polish girl and for me I simply cannot decide between Chanel's Lotus Rouge or Rouge Noir (its a red black colour thats just beautiful) for my own wedding.
From what I can tell from your blog, I think your the right person to pull off this trend. Goodluck with your decision :)
All the clothing in my wedding is neutral, the reason so I can have standout splashes of colour, red shoes, dark red dark purple and orange flowers, red nails seem only right, I think I'll try and go a red that will work well with my flowers.
I think the most important thing to do is something that you love, for me that's standing out and doing something fun. It's the one day, that no matter what fashion statement you make, it the right statment.
I don't know if you saw this wedding on The Bride's Cafe, but I thought the bride's nails looked awesome! http://www.thebridescafe.com/index.cfm?postID=269
Our wedding (in TWO DAYS!!!) is very soft, so I think I'm going to go with a light pink. I won't make an official decision until I walk into the nail salon... if I even have time to go, that is. Otherwise I'm with She's Crafty: buffed/polished nails look great too!
I'm thinking about red nails, too, but my only concern is how they'll show up in black and white photos. Will it look like I'm wearing black nail polish? I'm not so in to that.
short red nails, please.
i love bright red, despite the fact that you have a white dress. It reminds me of poppy fields :). I think you need to go with how you feel, and it might be a good idea to try out red nails with your dress before the wedding to see if you like it.
but red toes are happy toes...
go for it. only if really short. the only moment i can see it being distracting is when he slips your wedding ring on your finger.
they must be impeccable as well, as in, done 1 hour before ceremony, because you don't want to be worrying about chipping...
I vote red! Probably because a lot of other ladies are telling me I 'have' to do my nails a certain way, instead of what I like to rock (OPI's It's a Doozi, Says Suzi http://www.nailpolishdiva.com/NLA41_opi_nail_polish.htm) and I am sort indulging in imagining their reaction to red nails, even though there's still 17 months to go (which kind of makes me wonder why nails have even come up?!). If red is what you like, I say embrace it, go for it! I think it's edgy and different and fun. Just my two cents ;)
I think red sounds awesome! It's not something I could do because I constantly catch a glimpse of them out of the corner of my eye and think there's something on my hand but I think you should go for it.
I was in a wedding for which I wore a champagne-colored dress and carried blood-red flowers. I told the bride I was planning on doing my nails red. She told me she had the same idea, but her photographer told her to use a pale color on her nails, otherwise her nails would look like little black dots in the photos. I'm glad I went with a pale color - I can see how it would have looked funny, especially in the black & white shots.
loreal's "apple of my eye"... two coats, and it looks retro red with just enough tinge of orangey to it. looks way classic. i wear it almost everyday.
top it with some clear sally hansen so you avoid chipping... it'll stand out more in the bright colors.
I love adding a little color where ever possible. I think red nails will be super cute!! Why dont you test it out. Paint your nails red and where a white shirt have someone take a photo of some red on white action....
GO RED!
I went for a really pretty dark Maroony-Red (Material Girl by Essie)...at our party the night before, my fiancee said..."OH when are you getting your nails done? you should really relax tomorrow before all the chaos starts.."
I calmly said.."they are"...he said..."oh, they just don't look like your hands when they are like that"...
I went the next morning and got them painted a neutral. I mean I didn't want him feeling like he was putting a ring on a stranger...and he winked when he saw that I had changed them :)
My toes on the other hand....ELECTRIC BLUE :) 2 birds, one stone...
I think bright red would be fabulous, but I may be biased (I am doing the same thing myself for my wedding in 16 days...) I'm a bright color kind of gal, and I never did dig the french manicure look.
I love red nails (actually just repainted mine today!) but there are two things to think about with them.
One- be careful it doesn't rub off onto your dress. You know, like when you crease paper and you're left with the red line from your nail polish? It can happen to dresses as well. Granted, it'd just be a little mark :)
tTwo- in black and white photos they can look like you're wearing black nail polish (or that they are kind of bruised.) Once again, this might not be a big deal to you, or maybe you're only having color photography (in which case red nails would look awesome!)
Either way, do what you like the most and will be okay with looking back on. I mean, who says brides have to have neutral nails?
Here is a bride with red nails! http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/04/03/real-wedding-kathleen-tyson-february-red-iii/
what color are your shoes? if they aren't white... could you match them? that would be a fun funky foto ;)
red sound like fun too... very saucy!
purple? to go with the jewel tones.... maybe?
red!! yes!! i am wearing red!! i say if you like it then do it!
go with the red!! it will be a nice splash of color!!
my bridesmaids are wearing watermelon so i am thinking of going with a pink to match. my sister wore a light burgundy for her wedding and it looked wonderful! something diff!
RED! RED! RED! go with RED!
I reckon match your nails to your lipstick - natural for both or red for both!
I'm thinking of doing a simple french manicure or painting them with tiffany teal (one of our wedding colors).
I had long bright red nails. I tried to find a pic to show you, but you can't even tell. So - I say do it!! Looks sassy - and the whole white tip thing is so expected, have fun :)
do what moves you.
i'm doing bright berry pinkish redish. did a test wear last week to rave reviews. my inspiration this wedding posted on oncewed http://oncewed.com/index.cfm?postID=450&title=Jared__Eryn_II
oh, and i'm sporting yellow shoes, and a long ivory dress.
i just feel fancy fun with dark nailpolish!
I vote red nails. I'm not wearing white but one of the pics I am using to remind me of what I want to be on the day is of a bride in a short white gown with red lips and red nails. Soooo hot!
red nails looks perfect! cheers!

I have always had the biggest crush on red nail polish. Before I started cooking, I would always keep my nails perfectly manicured, short, and red. Now that I'm touching food all day long, washing my hands hundreds of times a day, and having to comply with L.A. health code, I've had to throw that idea out the window.
