hi guys. say hello to our cake. (i mean. i haven't ordered it yet. but i plan to this week. unless i change my mind.)
it will be a 6-incher from sweet lady jane. and FYI, a 6-incher serves 6-8 people.
WHAT, you say? WILL THAT BE ENOUGH, you say?
thing is, my venue has a dessert course option that's included in the cost. so i'm opting to serve the house chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream.
what that means is. i will not be paying for a separate so-called wedding cake. yay. well, i'm paying for the 6-incher...but that's it. it's almost like a prop. something to cut. because we want to cut a cake.
word.
p.s. i have two hangnails on my left thumb. one on the right and one on the left. eh.

what are you waiting for!? order it! :) looks yummy, provides a cake to cut and saves $$$. perfecto
YUMMY! Isn't sweet lady jane a song??? (no, I think it's "sweet jane...") anyway it looks good enuff for me to eat one that serves 6-8!!!!!)
and Jane is my grandma's first name and my daughter's middle...
Can't beat that!
oooh.yum. love sweet lady jane. sorry to hear about your hang nails --- soak in warm salt water.
Here is advice for your hangnail and anything else that bothers you in this final stretch.
1. Take a deep breath. Close your eyes. Imagine a far away ocean. Look at it for a while.
2. Open your eyes. Ask someone to help you. In the case of a hangnail, have someone find you some great cuticle oil.
3. Pick 3 things you care about, make them perfect. Everything else, 50-80% is OK. If your fingernails are in the top 3, fly to NYC and get a manicure:).
And I think your cake solution is perfect. Which gives you room for 3 more items.
this isn't technically relevant to this post but...
i've been adding "yo" to the ends of sentences lately. i quite like it but couldn't figure out why i did it. earlier it hit me--"oooh. i got that from 10000only. swwwwweeet." so. thanks for inspiring my new thang, yo.
oh and ps the cake looks yumtastic.
Love it! Our reception comes with dessert too (super yummy tiramisu and bread pudding) so my sister is making us a small cake to do the cake-cutting.
Plus sweet lady jane makes delicious cakes!
That looks delicious. Mmmm.
We're doing the same thing.... I worked in a high end bakery through college.... no need to spend $4+ per person on a piece of sugar!
perfect! exactly what we're doing, but we'll probably enlist some kid just out of culinary school to do it. helping someone build clientele AND not having to pay designer cake fees? I'm in.
i just found your blog by the way - glad to see someone else likes the challenge of a ridiculously inexpensive wedding!
oooh that looks delish! and quite the smart move, i must add. you save money AND still get a cake to cut. i like your thinking.
and if this is any indication, you should be fine with your "prop" cake: i told my mom that i wanted to have cupcakes instead of a wedding cake and she asked me what i would cut into. i told her a small cake on top and she said, oh okay that sounds like a good idea. so the moral of the story: doesn't matter what you have so long as you can cut into it for pictures. for your mom's sake. lol
great idea! we may end up doing a similar thing... it looks delicious!
The cake looks amazing, and I love that you're not falling into the $800 cake that nobody will eat trap.
Order it!
I love your blog. You make such sense. Great idea. I now want cake.
Fabulous idea!! 6-8 people is questionable, though. I'm pretty sure I could eat that six-incher on my own...
Ditto on the cake. We're getting a delicious prop cake to cut. And serving delicious cheap sheet cake for the guests. Check it off the list!
lovely cakes! i like the chocolate ones with matching mocha taste like..
6-8 people! 6 incher! hmm! i could ear it all! for myself only!
